Recommended code of ethics and professional practice for security companies and it’s employees

INTRODUCTION

COMPANIES SECURITY

A security professional like all other professional, must set a professional standard. And security companies should strive to promote and protect it so that its image should be continuously maintained. All those engage in it must contribute toward this goal and accept the responsibility for it.The business community, the prime users of security services are faced with the growing complexity and sophistication of the business world have created the need for good security to preserve and protect them from losses.

The security companies, thus have an important role to play to his vital life line for any nation. Looking after the business community is also looking after the nation and its people. The security companies besides viewing it from the commercial angle, has also a moral obligation to everybody concerned. With this as the term of reference and guideline, they need to strictly follow an accepted code of ethics.

OBLIGATION OF A SECURITY COMPANY

1 Every security company must regard itself as a professional, an important and integrated arm of management
2 Sound sense of professionalism and commitment must prevail over business interest and profits.
3 Be the eyes and ears to help not only the industry we are serving but also the Police Authorities in prevention of crime and also help bring the culprits and law-breaker to books.
4 Must endeavor to maintain a high standard of service and conduct in their management at all times.

PERSONAL

5 Must assign adequately trained and capable personnel to the assignment undertaken.
6 Must have qualified supervisory personnel to monitor the performance of the guard in the assignment as well as to establish that good security prevails at all times.
7 Must only recruit personnel of good caliber and background in accordance with the directives from the licensing and enforcement body i.e. The Home Ministry and Police.
8 A security guard must be well built and possess good physical health and must be able to project a personality of confidence befitting the profession.
9 Must pay the personnel a fair wage as far as possible and also look after their welfare as such as possible.
10 Must pay the necessary contribution to the Employees Provident Funds, Socso and other compulsory Government approved funds in time.

ADMINISTRATION

11 Must fully assess and evaluate the clients security needs before accepting the responsibility for it.
12 Must be able absolutely honest with the client as to their resources and capabilities.
13 Must offer their sincere recommendations regardless of the consequences, to the client on their security need in writing.
14 Must obtain in writing, preferably in a contract form, as to the responsibility and liabilities undertaken.
15 Must maintain all relevant records and documentations concerning the personnel employed.
16 Must regard other security practioners as colleagues and extend every co-operation and goodwill to them.
17 Must not deliberately undercut by offering lesser rates just to obtain the business. Must practice a standard rate as far as possible and options to offer reasonable discounts if and when necessary. Must as far as possible charge a reasonable uniform rate for the various services according to the requirements of the clients.
18 Must do not anything to bring respect as to degrade others engage in the profession.
19 Must promote and preserve goodwill and understand among other security practioners.
20 Must ensure that high standard of service and moral prevails among themselves and their employees at all time.
21 No security company should induce or encourage job hopping from one security company to another unless the employee chooses to resign on his own. A security company before employing an ex-security guard must inform the former company and seek their views and advise as to the applicants character and caliber.
22 A proper scheduled training should be given to the security guards in all forms of discipline and loss prevention before assigning him to an assignment and this training should continue periodically as the basis for In-House training.
23 Must comply with all the requirements under the Private Agency Act 1971 and subsequent guidelines on directives by the Government issued from time to time.
